Original Creation

October Sunset

lightsnow 07 Oct 2020

Painting # 68. This was a more impromptu painting from yesterday afternoon. The fall colors here are peaking so I wanted to try capturing the beauty in a painting. I thought it might look nice in an oval so I went ahead and made one with contact paper. My goal for this one was to create a painting without a reference. I also gesso'd the canvas a bit more this time and added liquid white more liberally to really work on blending the sky. I wasn't too satisfied with my mountain. I think my titanium white was actually too thick and I had trouble getting it to stick to the mountain. Overall, this was a fun, relaxing painting. It's nice to be able to just pick up brushes and create something out of thin air in the afternoon without planning too much. This one took me 2 hours. 18x24

It is a true beauty Lightsnow! At first I thought 100% it was a Bob Ross recreation.
Being it an original makes this so much more valuable!

Quite some depth created with mountains and the trees, it all worked out! Birches and bushes are my favourite and catch the eye under the glorieus supervision of those mighty mountains!
GREAT JOB!!

A peaceful scene beautifully done!

No kidding. Your liner work on the branches is excellent. Thanks for sharing.

Great painting! Everything is perfect there!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I really appreciate it!

Now that I'm looking again I see the bushes at the bottom of the trees came out really well too, nice separations and colors. Which brushes were you using on these bushes?

@DavidT - I was using the half size round brush for the bushes. I've been using that one a lot lately for foliage on trees and bushes. I never really got the 1 inch brush to work for me. The half size round brush and the full size round brush are wonderful for making foliage. Just tap the top half of it in your paint and use that to add highlights.
