Quiet Winter Morning

lightsnow 18 Nov 2020

Painting # 75 - 3/4 of the way to 100! I painted this one earlier this morning as another donation to Colin for the Queenscourt Hospice. I'm planning on making winter-themed paintings for this cause until Christmas comes around. My goal for this one was to keep it soft, simple, and to try a different way of painting evergreens. I think it worked out not so bad. I realized I just can't, for whatever reason, paint them like Bob does. I've been trying for the better part of 2 years and I'm still having trouble. That tells me I need to try different methods of painting them! I decided to try adding chimney smoke to the cabin and to flick liquid white with a fan brush + knife to create the illusion that a light snow is descending from the sky (as per my username!). Overall, this took me 2 hours and it was quite freeing as I wasn't using a reference and wa sjust letting it flow naturally. 18x24

Good job!...great distance

I love it - great work, and thanks for the contribution.

Lots of distance! Love the shading in the snow. Trees look great. And the addition of smoke from the chimney makes the cabin feel like a cozy place to curl up and read a book.
