The Tetons and the Snake River

moai 07 Jun 2021

Painted on a 20 x 16 canvas. This painting is based off of an actual photograph recently taken by a relative who is currently visiting the Tetons and Yellow Stone. I used my artist's license to change the direction of the sun, for ease of highlighting the mountains, and added a fence and path, for something in the foreground. I did my best to try to get the perspective correct on the snake river as it goes around a curve. I also took some time to try to make the pine forest that is next to the river. I hope the trees that are closer are different enough to be seen as separate trees. I also experimented to add trees going up the slopes of the Teton and even used a knife to apply it to the base. I am thinking of giving this one to my relative as a gift when they return and even have a frame for it..

Nice!

This is fantastic! I found myself imagining all the terrains you've been able to capture there: the mountains, the forests, the river with the island. Then I read the description and realized why I could do that so easily: I live right along the Snake River. Further west from here, but a lot of the terrain is the same, and you've done a phenomenal job of bringing that all to life. Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Thank you. I had to try different ideas to get some of the effects. I am glad it looks good.
