Original Creation

Monet's Saint Giorgio Maggiore at Twilight

parksd02 28 Jul 2020

This was my first foray into oil pastels. I've been a sucker for French Impressionism for quite sometime. I always appreciated Bob bringing on guest artists who specialized in various mediums. If you haven't already, I would encourage you to watch Ben Stahl in season 7.

Pastels

Great painting. Interesting effects with pastel!

I got to see it from the monitor rather than from the phone screen. This is beutiful. Can you tell more what did you canvas or paper I cannot get it. A lot of rhythm with those pastel marks. I'd even say it reminds Van Gogh to some extent.

Hi-- I used Strathmore pastel paper. This was my first time using this medium, which felt a little like crayon. Blending took a little work and the photo seems to heighten the texture more so. By the way, did you see my comment/question to you via my Van Gogh still life drawing?

Thanks for the answer! I tried pastel when I was 15 or may be 20. I still have it from that old times. I did not touch it though. But your painting inspired me to try it again. I just need to research if I can use it on canvas panel. I do not have this paper in my city. Is your pastel soft I do not remember what my was but now it is like crayons.
