After living with this painting for a while, I realized the buffalo were simply too dark. To bring them forward, I darkened the woods behind them and added warm sunlight to their shoulders and backs. Those subtle changes made all the difference.
I think I’m finally done with this one.
i still think one buffalo has funky eyes, but I'm getting better at them. :)
Fantastic painting, too much or too little can make a huge difference for highlights. The clouds are also stunning!
