King of the Rockies

I grew up near these mountains, and the sight of a bighorn ram standing high on a rocky ledge has always stayed with me — proud, quiet, at home in the cold moonlight.

For this painting, I drew on Remington’s nocturnes for inspiration — letting the darkness tell the story and letting the ram emerge from it.

I tried to bring him to life the way I remember: a sentinel of the high country, standing watch under the stars, part of the mountain itself.
