The cripples sold for £86,000 in 2011, the title of which would be frowned upon today of course. Painted by LS Lowry in 1949, i expect most people wont "get it" , Lowry was mocked for his child like renditions of British folk going about there day in grimy industrial towns, if still alive today he would be a multi millionaire
Thank you Helen, for sure Lowry is hard to replicate. Side by side with the real thing the differences are obvious, knowing this going in i didn't really try too hard to duplicate the palette but just to capture the essence of the original
I know what you mean. I've just read the list of colours he used which I didn't know when I did my one and only offering. I did try to replicate it but went off piste a bit as usual, although I think I did capture the essence of it, that's a good way to put it. I did count all the characters though and made sure they were all in there. I thought I'd finished only to find I'd missed out a whole bunch of them.😳 Out came the brushes again.
This is a nice, complicated render.
Great work Tel. Real Northern England atmosphere. Mind you, they do seem to be a bit too well fed for Lowry's era. I do enjoy your work.
Thanks Rebecca, thanks Colin, that's very kind

I have long been in awe of this painting, its my favourite Lowry. The honesty of it, the strife and the heartbreaking despair of it. Makes me realise how far we come in such a few short years yet at the same time I wonder if those times for some of us will come round again, life being as fragile as it is. It's not as easy as people imagine painting a Lowry, even the palette is weird isn't it and there's no room to do your own thing, I failed there of course. I'll put up my Lytham Pier to keep yours company. Well done tel, you nailed it.
