Bob has his friend Ben Stahl visit him in his studio and how us how to do a portrait.
second comment: For this painting, regular thin oil painting brushes are needed. I didn't use any of my Bob Ross brushes for this at all. And other than the liquid white, I used my other oil paints I use for non-landscape paintings.
This is not easy to do because he doesn’t explain what he is doing, I have watched it 100 times and still not getting it.
This episode is truly something different. Ben Stahl talks about the principles he paints by. Tone, hot/cold colors, varying texture, varying line. He uses spray - that one is new to me! This is worth watching but don't expect it to be a recipe for your first portrait. [I confess I was totally hoping for an easy first portrait recipe]. He spends time explaining why and talking big principles. That stuff is good to hear. But know that He can just push a brush, and voila, line becomes nose... blob becomes eye. To learn to lay in a face and have it look like a face takes knowledge of structure, form, line, and this he does not give a step by step formula for.
