Gray Mountain

HLarson3 07 Feb 2022

It had been way too long since I painted mountains and was beginning to get intimidated by the thought of it. So after several nights of nothing but mountain practice, I gave this bright one a go.

I’m pleased with my mountain, it’s probably my best yet, thanks to drying out my highlight colors a bit on a cardboard scrap to allow for better paint breaks. I am still trying to obtain a “vision” and knack for “natural” shaping of the peaks.

I’m also quite happy with my evergreens here, though the trunks of all things gave me trouble (I think I was too scared to touch them after I was so happy with their shape). Water lines of all things are also a bit challenging.

The biggest challenge was bushes here, I just couldn’t quite get the paint thickness/quantity of paint in the brush quite right. More practice on the way. I elected NOT to paint the final couple bushes over my banks because I liked my banks and they were just creating muddles.

Enjoy, I really love this one!

Very nice! I really liked doing this one too.

The colors of the sky and the reflections are beautiful.
