Spectacular Waterfall

HLarson3 08 Mar 2022

Holy regression Batman!

I’ve had this canvas prepped for months, and I truly admire Bob’s painting. However, even after some extra time practicing waterfalls and streams, I pressed too hard and applied too much paint in my waterfall, which frustrates me.

Those rocks on the side are a real challenge, because they don’t look anything like what you think they should as you’re painting them. I disliked mine on the left so much, I tried the palette knife technique, and I really don’t like those. The misty areas on the left didn’t come together either so I piled on another big rock with a funky little tree. Since I was working on a time crunch and am trying to get a bit faster, I pushed through the stream effects on the end and they also didn’t come out as I’d like.

I like the mountain, the light glow area, and the overall mood, I just couldn’t quite pull this one off.

A very different painting that I’d love to try down the road when I’m more experienced and not feeling so “brain foggy.”
