Emerald Waters

potatopainter 03 Apr 2023

Well here's painting #5. I was excited for this one. It was my first attempt using black gesso. I was intimidated by that and the fact that most of the work is with a fan brush. And that's certainly a weak point for me... I tried flicking and swirling and well... I did my best and learned a lot... I really need to improve my linework. I just can't seem to get the fine lines I'm looking for with my script liner. And I think I applied too much liquid clear/sap green mixture for the base coat because things got muddy pretty quickly. I also had a happy little accident and placed the island and trees too close to the center of the composition. So I tossed in some happy, yet muddy little bushes in the bottom left to try and balance things out. I still really enjoyed the entire process and I think I'll be revisiting this one after some more practice. I welcome any and all advice and criticism 🤠

Good job

Fan brush is one of my favorite brushes and becomes very versatile. Your trees, water, and highlighting is very good. I would say you are doing quite well with the fan brush and #5. I am still working on not making mud with the bushes too. A lighter touch and a little magic white with your color (and correcting happy accidents) will come with time......I am still experimenting and have been at it for only 15 months but enjoy the learning, the progress, and the comments and paintings of others. Keep up the good work....looking forward to seeing more of your talent.

I like it! I still work like that too alot.. "Whoops, must need a bush there.. " lol. Landscapes are a great way to learn, so forgiving. The water looks really awesome.

Well done.
