Mighty Mountain Lake

"Mighty Mountain Lake"
September 25, 2023
Oil on canvas
70x50cm

This one was inspired by the Bob Ross painting "Mighty Mountain Lake" (S16E12), but it turned out completely different!

The painting caught my eye because of the bright red that Bob used for the grassy areas on the lake shores and the bushes in the foreground. Such a nice contrast with the greens and blues!
(not so much in the Joy of Painting episode, but the book version has a lot of bright red.)

I then looked up pictures of Alaska in autumn. Well... The pictures I found were stunning! All the different colours of blue, purple, orange, green, red...
And so I ended up using one of those pictures as a base. I did however add the distant evergreens and the blue lake, Bob style.
Didn't have the guts to put in big evergreens in the foreground though. Bravery test: failed. LOL!

A lot of knife work on the mountains and foothills, but also some good old 2-inch brush tapping.

Very beautiful!

That's some big beautiful mountains Titia, the shadowing is perfection 👏👏

Thank you all.
I liked doing these mountains based off a picture of the real place.

This is a wonderful compo Titia! Your lighting vs. shadowing is awesome. Who needs a big tree when you have such a beautiful panorama?!!! Actually, the big tree is there... it's off the canvas. 😁

Beautiful painting Titia.
