Desert Glow

Emily_Buchanan 10 Aug 2025

Did this one in a Bob Ross class I took for fun. 2.5 hours, 12x16 canvas. Afraid I didn't get a good photo of it, there's a lot of glare/artifacts. Added some extra bushes/rocks/hills because original version felt a little bare. I gave this painting to my Grand-uncle for his birthday.

Note - this was my first ever oil painting in my life. I have used acrylics for nearly 20 years.

Love the texturing of your rocky outcropping.

@KerriG Thanks. Truth be told that came about because I was trying with the pallete knife to get the highlight color to "break"and just couldn't get it, having never used a pallete knife before. I finally said, "The heck with it" and just started gobbing random colors on in chunks with a filbert brush. It took ages to set but it came out pretty cool.

That's the beauty of painting; happy little accidents can turn into beautiful opportunities all the time!

For your first painting this is really nice, Welcome to Two inch brush!

@tel It was my first oil painting, but I've painted with acrylics for years off and on.
