Campfire

Purkie 28 Nov 2025

Here is my 2nd painting ever. So I'm completely new to this hobby painting thing, but it's absolutely amazing that you can get something like this on the canvas in just 1 or 2 hours. I had so much fun doing it, but I still don't understand how Bob (Ross) wants you to blend, because when I try to go over it to blend, I basically wipe the entire painting away — even though I'm barely touching the canvas. Does anyone have tips or an explanation for that?

Great painting.

Campfire is a great looking picture, but I've seen it featured on lists of the hardest Bob Ross paintings to do. So you certainly set yourself a challenge for your second painting. Try blending by brushing the canvas very lightly with the sides of the bristles, not the ends.

If youre trying to blend something fluffy like clouds, it helps to use a soft brush like squirrel. Hog bristles are stiff. Bobs 2 inch brush is in between in stiffness, it can be done but requires light touch. hence the 2 hairs and some air phrase you sometimes hear.

Aaa okay, so the type of brush is also important? I bought one at Action for a euro. I'm guessing it's a synthetic one.
