Sunset Oval

LPM 10 Jul 2026

‘Sunset Oval’ is my first oval painting using oval cut contact paper. On a 16x12 panel. I placed a board on the table, and used the ‘3 nail and string’ method to make two concentric ovals ½” apart, 1” from edge. Worked well. I had a panel that was light grey gesso to help apply liquid white, but the color goes well with the reds. One odd thing is that both the book and the video highlight the mountain on the right but the yellow sky is on the left. I thought this weird until I saw the same effect the other night, with the red where the sun was setting due to haze in the air, so I felt better about painting it as in the video.

Very nice. Starting with the most difficult oval shape went perfect.

Wow, really impressive on the clean cuts for the oval--well done!

Very nice work.
