Winter Solitude

Chris Monk 31 Dec 2019

I painted this one in December 2019. This is my 16th painting - OIl on paper - Strathmore 400 - 12" X 18". It took me 6 or 8 hours but the experience was pretty smooth and Bob's lessons are always a joy to follow. I got a little busy in the sky so I tried to keep the foreground simpler. I hope ya'll like it and please share any thoughts, advice or criticisms. Thanks and happy painting everyone!

Great depth in your painting. The snowy hills with grass and trees are very strong!

It is amazing! Wonderful colors!

It was whole day adventure! It looks amazing! So many variations of the color in the snow! And your purple is amazing! What did you use to mix it? Is it Alizarin Crimson in the sky? What brand of the paints?

Thank you both. You are very kind. In regards to Sunnylady's comments. The mixing was all done as close as I could to what Bob did, on the pallet mostly but on the canvas at times. In the sky, I added a lot of Titanium White and Midnight Black to make those clouds. In the snow, I decided to stick with the same colors, so it's just four colors all together in my version of this painting. Pyhalo Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Midnight Black. and Titanium White. The paints are Bob Ross and Gamblin 1980 brand. Thanks again for your kind words.

That should have been Pthalo Blue, hehe. They won't let me edit comments here...

Thanks for sharing! I like it, it looks very soft! Trees are great!

I love the animals Bob shows in his videos. I bet they are an inspiration to you. Excellent blending of sky and clouds to create good depth, something unique and wonderful. The tree up front and your use of the liner brush really catch attention.
