Mountain Rhapsody

dracula 09 Feb 2020

I wish I had made the mid-ground foliage a little less violet and more bluish instead. That probably would have added a bit more realistic atmospheric distance. Otherwise this one was fun!

You do have a patent on those very detailed mountains and trees. The different tones in sky and specially the snow are so realistic! I like the roughness and wild branches in the evergreens, nature at its best! WAW!

Mountain looks very 3D! Amazing work at making shadows and highlights brought it to life! Great depth in the painting as well!

Yet another wonderful painting. I really am a big fan of your mountains and evergreens. I think I mentioned this in another comment, but I would love to see you produce a tutorial on how you create such nice mountains and pine trees. Great work!

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I certainly appreciate it!

One thing I should mention about this painting is that I've started experimenting with a fast-drying impasto medium for the dark under-layer of the mountain. If I let it set up for a little while before I start applying the highlights, I get some extra control. I'm not sure I recommend it yet, but it is something I'm messing around with.

@lightsnow - I have been looking into video cameras to see if I can make some tutorials!
