Waterfall Wonder

dracula 16 Feb 2020

I think this is probably the 20th or 25th-ish painting I have done from the Joy of Painting books rather than from the television program and I have noticed that I spend less and less time reading the step-by-step instructions and instead kinda just go for it and paint after the color plate of the finished painting. I'm not sure if this is good or bad. It feels a little lazy. That said, I was able to finish this painting in a bit less time than usual, so maybe that's something of note. In any case, I enjoyed the blue-green color in this painting; I think it adds a bit of mystery.

Reading your used method, I would simple state that you have become accustomed to multiple techniques and tricks. Means you are mastering it, which is ALWAYS very positive. I can easily recognise your style again in this painting, the trees, that so well prepared sky, that delicious misty atmosphere, the dark and light play …. another true beauty Dracula, my compliments!!

I like this moon night feel this painting has!
I tried only flowers from the book. I did only one painting from there so far. I have not tried landscapes from the book yet but I will one day as I am impressed by your works!
Wonderful details as usual!

I love what you did with the waterfall water. This is stunning!!

I always love the way you take a Ross painting and then paint it in your own style. He tells us not to copy, and you certainly take that on board and run with it. I have a book too and I find it more enjoyable painting from a picture than following the written instructions or the video step by step. It's not lazy, it's about progression. I have noticed though that I put all the suggested colours on my palette but tend not to use them all, and I might get better results if I did.

The colours are so calming and inviting. I really love this work. Well done! (Scootermate_taits mum 😁)
