Wilderness Day

Bushchicken 28 Mar 2020

My 6th painting, and my favorite so far. I love the colors on this one, reminds me of a peaceful Thomas Kinkade vibe. I really enjoyed painting the background in black and grey gesso and thought it turned out so well that I almost didn’t apply oil to the canvas.

I avoided putting too much haze in the sunset with Titanium White because I wanted to keep the beauty of the mountain. In hindsight, I think I was a little too light on the Titanium White.

A few elements gave me real problems on this one and it became my first multi-session painting, but overall I’m pleased with how it all turned out. One thing for me to work on is multiple layers of bushes. Takes real courage to paint another bush over one that I’m already pleased with.
