Forest Hills

Moira 15 May 2020

This was my first oil painting attempt! Really excited to try more.

Getting the white to stick to the blue of the mountains was the biggest challenge. Eager to have my “little roll of paint” slide down the mountain. And I am least happy with the “little footie hills”

I am using Bob’s colors, but midnight black and yellow ochre didn’t come out green for me. They came out an ugly brown. Couldn’t get my small bright green trees the right color either.

Happiest with sky, then water, then rocks.

Cheers.

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Indeed a strange combination, maybe you used too much black? The mix might have been better with Spa green and yellow ochre …. nevert tried this before myself though!
Your mountains and sky are really good, no worries!!!

Hi, Voy,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Believe it or not, I found the problem with my greens, and in particular my yellow. I bought Cadmium Yellow online, and what they sent was called Medium Cadmium Yellow Hue. But it looked much more orange than yellow. I went back and ordered true Cadmium Yellow. Rather disappointed in all the wasted time and energy (and canvas and paint) that this retail error caused. Just thrilled I was able to figure it out and fix the problem. I honestly thought I might be really stupid. But that didn’t seem to be it, either. Bob would be proud. Can’t wait to try more now that I have the correct cad yellow.👍🏻
