Autumn Mountain

hendrix 01 Nov 2020

I finally made a realistic-looking mountain. I think I almost know how to work with the knife. The foreground isn't as good, something's "off" somehow.

VERY competative mountain! Love that rigid shape!!
Those clouds in between make this just a unicum!!

Really nice mountain and cloud additions! I think I see what you mean by something being 'off' in the foreground as this happened to me many times as well. On the right, you appeared to try to create the illusion that the lake or river was winding off to the far right, although now it sort of looks like the water itself is no longer level, if that makes sense? I had worked on this a while back. When creating all those little inlets or bits of land that extend into the water, doing those larger in the front and smaller as your go back would help with creating that illusion. It really is all a game of illusions with this style of painting. Still, though, great job with this. Nice colors in the sky and your trees are also well done!

You should be VERY proud of those mountains. They are amazing. I like the clouds in between too.

Thanks for the tip lightsnow, I will look into that. I found that most of my paintings' foregrounds have the same kind of dimensions and distances. I'll try to do something about that in my next attempt!
