The Footbridge

Rita 13 Dec 2020

The sky didn't turn out as I imagined it but still a good practise (I'm new to painting btw).

Progressive sky!
Can I ask, did you use enough liquid white at the beginning? Was blending the colours on the canvas smooth or tough?

I think it was a little tough and then when I added the blue it turned green because of the yellow (I believe that's a rookie mistake) and then I didn't know what to do :/

The red/pink band to be added just above the yellow should have kept it from touching the blue. The blue was only added sparsely and high in the sky with just some shy clouds on the yellow (should not turn green that way).

If blending the colours was tough, then you used not enough liquid white.
The trick is to add it and spread it out in an even proportion, just enough to let the other paint glide over it, and not enough to let the paint mingle too much with it.

A trick to check the amount of liquid white used would be to press your finger on it. If it shows white, you added too much. If it shows hardly any white, you used too few. If you can see a clear fingerprint, then you got the right amount!

Thank you very much for those tips! :) I'll definitely will have that in mind next time I paint!
