At Dawn's Light

rockwithspock 14 Dec 2020

I did this painting after a wine and paint night this summer. We didn't have the right equipment, we were using acrylics, and we were on my friend's living room floor. I bought oils less than a week later, and this was my first real go at using oils, and following a tutorial. And now I am hooked.
Please send help and keep me out of Blick.

Oils

At Dawns Light is a personal favourite of mine and is a very popular painting here. Oils are easy to blend and as you have asked for help I can give you this tip for your sky background. Before you start adding anything else make gentle horizontal strokes across the sky area to get rid of the brush strokes with a two inch brush if you have one for a nicely blended sky. You have done a great job on your first oil painting. I can see I have got competition for my soft style!

Thank you so much for the help, I really appreciate it, especially being a new painter! Yeah, after looking back at this painting, there are so many things I can see I would like to improve on, primarily the sky. I wish I would have gotten the orange blended out more, and that the brush strokes aren't as noticeable.

Don't worry, it's still a very nice painting, full of promise. We learn something new every time we get your brushes out.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your feedback! <3 I also remember this was before I had paint thinner... so all I had was vegetable oil hahahaha. I would be surprised if this molded eventually.
