At Dawn's Light

lightsnow 20 Dec 2020

Painting # 77. It's been 3 weeks since I last painted. This has been the longest gap in between paintings since I started almost 2 years ago. Things have been busy leading up to the impending holiday break so my motivation and focus have been a bit off. I wanted to take a bit of a break and follow along with an episode just to relax and have a good time, so I selected this one. Overall, this was a really pleasant experience. It took me around 2.5 hours start to finish. I think I'm starting to get the hang of creating the illusion of more hazy, 'distant' trees by muddying my titanium white a bit. For the foreground trees, I try to keep the white really clean and crisp. 18x24

Lightsnow, great painting!
About haziness - what you do is absolutely how that shall be, as with distance highlights cannot be the same value as in the front. Also shadows in the distance are not the same darkness as in front. Meaning more narrow value chart for distant objects and a wide value chart for close-up objects!

Happy upcoming holidays!

Beautiful! I like your reflections and pines and the great depth. I really enjoyed painting this one.

I love the way the path disappears into the woods! Beautiful painting!
