Shades of Grey

RosoLima 19 Jan 2021

First attempt at this one. Since I had been so frustrated painting mountains lately I told myself this one was just going to be for practice. I think there was just a bit too much liquid white on the canvas as I had a hard time getting any dark to stick. The only reason it is shown here is because I added it in as a highlight. I started out trying to do the trees with a knife, but it was just too gloppy, so I went back to the comfort of the fan brush and straightt liquid white for the highlight. In the video his background trees seemed out of scale with the mountains and I tried to salvage the distance here with his technique of far away trees, but it needs work. And again, too much liquid white made reflections smear. But I will try again this week.

I think your mountains turned out pretty good!
