This was something completely different for me and I loved painting it! Does anyone know if this is an authentic, traditional style, though? If so, what is it called please?

Thank you - interesting article! I love this style of painting - the hard aggressive edges and the soft, lighter planes between them. I'm a karate student and when it's dry, this will be a gift for my Sensei.

Hope that is what you are looking for. I've sen many of these in musea in South Korea and Japan. The constant hovering between light and dark colouring really sets these creations in the spotlight.
I believe this is far from easy so I really admire that you made a great creation of it! Bravo!
