Evergreen Valley

TomW 20 Feb 2021

My twin friends visited Bob Ross' set in Muncie during the filming of this episode. While he paints the right mountain he mentions them and how they brought him paintings of their own to show him. They asked me to paint this one for their dad's birthday, since this episode is a family memory/treasure of theirs.

I really enjoyed this. It's complex and has a lot of layers on top of using both liquid white and black together. I still struggle most when I reach too many layers and feel like wetting down the paint just makes the colors very muddled and bland on the canvas (closer grass, for example). Still, I really enjoyed this one.

Criticism and tips welcome!

I think your mountains and evergreens look great.

Thank you so much. I am really happy with the highlights on the trees (usually they get too muddled) but I definitely struggled with the mountains in this one. Just out of practice I think. I couldn't define the shape of the ridges how I wanted and started to get a lot of paint on the canvas. I think I salvaged them but I would have preferred to have put less white/red highlights on them. Thanks again!

Don’t sell yourself short on those mountains either. There are a lot of things going on with them. You have a painting to be proud of.

this is lovely and how very cool is that story!! this should make them all very very happy!
