The hardest for me is adding highlights for the trees. I end up with muddy looking trees and losing all the nice dark areas.

Sorry meant to say you need to use more liquid white than you realize. I’m still working on it myself
you can always add highlights the next day or a few hours later... once the undercoat dries a little, it is much easier to highlight. :)

I just did the episode Northwest majesty. You don’t realize how much liquid white is being used behind the scenes with Bob, But it’s pretty much added with every additional layer to help it stick and get less muddy. So with highlights, it looks like you use more liquid white then you thought you had to, and use a very light touch (just the tips of the bristles). That said this actually still looks very nice in my opinion
