Pastel Seascape

KarenKEY 27 Mar 2021

The first seascape I have attempted. I will try it with an oval next time. Does anyone know the best way to cut the perfect oval in contact paper?

Pretty! Love those colors!

That is really pretty. The sky is a very warm combination of color. I just bought some contact paper tonight so I’m not ready to answer your specific question but I did do an oval shaped painting the other day. I used gift wrapping paper and cut it the length and size of the canvas. 18 by 24. Then I took a dinner place mat and put it upside down on the gift wrap paper. Sort of in the middle. I traced around it with a marker. Then cut it out. I used scotch tape to put the remaining gift wrap paper on the canvas. Then painted. Then removed the gift wrap. I think hopefully the contact paper will be easier but haven’t started figuring that one out yet.

Sorry I meant masking tape. Not scotch. I doubt that would hold.

I bought a wooden oval from Meijer or Michael’s. I used contact paper (Walmart or Meijer) and outlined the oval, cut it out, started with one of the shorter ends to start sticking it to the canvas. It helps if someone can hold the end down while you pull the protector sheet off. I recommend when you paint, to paint inward instead of out. Otherwise, sometimes paint gets under the contact paper. Sorry if that was more than you wanted.

Hey thanks to Brooke and Happy Island for the tips on getting the oval in the contact paper. I will give that a try!
