I really like using the black gesso canvas. I'm still struggling with the basic shape of evergreens especially when they are in the background. This is 3 weeks in to starting painting. I am enjoying it so much and can't wait to do another one tonight....but first we practice trees!

If you like the black canvases I'd recommend trying "Sunlight in the Shadows." Bob's friend Dana paints that but he does a great job explaining everything as he goes along. Pretty simple one to try.
