Original Creation

BR Classic Demo Recreation, Mk2

DaveJ 26 Nov 2021

This 2nd version has resulted from some excellent and very helpful suggestions from and subsequent collaborations with Sunnylady over a couple of small ‘section practice paintings’ over the last 3 weeks, to create further depth in this painting. This mentoring and action learning process has been very enjoyable and rewarding and a very valuable learning and skills improvement session for me. Sunnylady is preparing an article detailing the suggestions and reasoning for the painting changes. This Mk2 painting has aimed to capture those suggestions to create further depth by pushing everything further back and also increasing the depth within each section. The mountains were the hardest and most draining part trying to get the values right to help create that depth. Despite all my planning, I realised at the end of the painting (and at the end of the day) that I still muffed a couple of things; eg the the left side ridge line on the front lower mountain got blurred and is only just distinguishable, and forgot to vary the the lines of the distant hills. At that stage, discretion and tiredness overcame valour and I decided that trying to make the changes could impact adversely on what was what I thought was a great painting for me. So time to move onto over paintings and capture minor issues at a later date. Overall a really great mentoring and collaborative painting experience. Thank you Sunnylady.

Dave, thank you for your kindness and patience. I think this is a fantastic step forward you did!

Dave, the article is here: https://www.twoinchbrush.com/articles/for-dave-j-about-mountains

Sunnylady, much appreciation and many thank you’s for what you have done and for putting together the article that helped me and I am sure will help others. To anyone interested in increasing depth in their mountainous landscapes, I can only recommend a close study and application of the contents of Sunnylady’s article; viz. “Big far away mountains and how to make them look far away”, published in the Community - Articles section 27 Nov 2021.
