‘Soft Clouds”: Shelly Prior Art demo

DaveJ 27 Jan 2024

Trying to get some control of the fluid dynamics when painting in watercolours is providing a challenge to this old fella. This is my ‘x’th attempt to paint a cloud scape of soft clouds from an on-line demo by Shelly Prior. It is painted on cold press 300gsm wc paper; to fit in a 7x5” mount for framing. Enjoy.
Update 18 Feb '24: Just added better photo with the micro-shadows eliminated by direct front lighting via selfie ring. Looks much better. See photo of new photographing system in Additional photo in my 'Street Scene' painting. Enjoy.

Controlling watercolors is like trying to nail jello to a wall. Beautiful painting.

Ha, ha, love your comment Tomi - you absolutely nailed it. I probably should paint the watercolour scenes at twice the size of these postcard sizes to make it a bit easier on myself. Cheers

It does look like a real challenging one! You did a fantastic job! Love this simple scene!

Thanks Nancy. Yes it is a bit more challenging trying to preserve the white paper for the white areas of the painting. I think when I redo this, it will be on A4 Hot Press paper with a more wet on wet technique. Cheers

Nice work Dave!

Thanks Tom, cheers
