“Street Scene”: - Peter Sheeler

DaveJ 27 Jan 2024

Getting back into painting after a break away with an early Peter Sheeler Street Scene line and watercolour wash demo from 8 years ago; minus a couple of buildings to optimise fit in a 7x5” mount for framing. Enjoy.
Update 17 Feb 24: I have added a better photo taken to eliminate all the micro-shadows that have been plaguing my WC painting photos from the old side-lighting system I had been using. This additional photo is taken with my iPhone in the circle of an 18 inch Selfie Ring Light Stand and using a blue tooth devise to trigger the shutter - see extra photo also. Never too old to learn a new trick.

Thank you for your lovely compliment Nancy. Line and wash are a lot simpler than the full-blown watercolour. I look forward to seeing you scratch that itch. Cheers

Thanks Jeff. These line and wash paintings do have that potential. Cheers

Hi All, a quick update with the addition of a couple of Additional Pictures showing the results of photographing my watercolours with the use of direct front lighting via a Selfie Ring a photo showing this setup;. Also using a remote control bluetooth button to my phone (also shown in the picture) to minimise any disturbance when taking the photo.. So I should be able to reserve the Hot Press paper for more detailed work.

Love your set up! 😊 I use cold press paper… what’s the difference? And I agree with you that line & wash are easier than a full blown watercolor. Much easier to learn from as a beginner.

Hi Nancy, thank you on the photography set-up comment. I have used Art Spectrum cold press in all WC paintings except the last - 'Simple Farm House'. I was getting disillusioned with my WCs because of the darkness - which I worked-out to be the side lighting I was using that caused micro-shadows all over the painting. So I'll go back to using cold press and also try Rough for most of my WCs and stay with Hot Press to use where I want a lot of detail. I love your recent WCs as I've scrolled through since I've been back and now working through covid recovery; so I'll have another look and comment on them soon. I hope to even try a line and wash today. Cheers

Dave, i see the difference. I think it is a great improvement in photo quality!

Thank you Sunnylady. I feel a lot better displaying my wc paintings now that I have fixed that problem. Cheers
