Original Creation

Black Cat’s Lucky Pond

ESCM 12 Oct 2020

Finally found time to paint again after a while. I have wanted to paint a fall scene for a while, and I am so happy with how this turned out. This painting is based off of a picture I took over this fall season so far, and I think I did it justice. I love my water reflections and trees, but my favourite part has to be the black cat and pumpkins. I have never painted a cat before because of being too worried about messing it up, but I am glad that I finally tried it.

Great work on the reflections, those are pretty hard to get right with acrylics!
You sure this is your first cat? The head-body-proportions there are perfect 😊

Felix, thank you so much. I was surprised at how reflections turned out. It’s definitely really difficult to do with acrylics, I used glycerin (used like a liquid clear) to keep it wet and it helped.
And thank you about the cat! I’m so glad that it turned out nicely 😊

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Well done Elsie, cacthing autumn, Halloween and animal day in one creation!!

Voy Kay, thank you!!

Elsie, it is a beautiful scene! Cat and pumpkins bring cute touch. It is great you used photo as inspiration and adjusted it to get composition you like.

Sunnylady, thank you so much! When I finished the painting I knew that I wanted to add a Halloween and fall touch, and I’m glad that I added the pumpkins and cat. And taking the photo! There were so many ideas popping in my head to add and adjust the picture when I took it for my painting. I wanted to add grass at the front for more foreground work. And I definitely wanted the reflections to be bigger for the painting so I could practice them!
