Original Creation

Overgrown Barn

Jeffth 09 Oct 2023

This did not turn out as I had hoped. I decided to try painting this based on a photo I saw hanging out at the lake. My reference photo was pretty low quality, which didn't help, but overall it just wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. None of my branches are to my liking, and the proportions of the barn are sloppy. I learned a lot though, and I'm glad I can start something else now!

It really looks great! Love the background trees and the barn is wonderful!

Thank you! The background trees turned out the best out of everything in my opinion. Next time I'd like to use a mini projector to trace the barn and get the proportions correct.

This looks incredible. Really. Itโ€™s so realistic. If paint is still a little wet, could add a tiny bit of depth to the show (little shadows). But doesnโ€™t even need it because the focus is on the barn and trees. Great work

Great painting Jeff! I agree with you that the trees in the background are the stars but the barn is so good too!

It looks really really really good Jeff! ๐Ÿ˜ You are too hard on yourself. I thought it was a picture when I first saw it. You did an outstanding job here my friend!

Thank you Bob, Brian, and Nancy! You all are too kind. It really helps me to see my own work in another light after hearing your opinions.

Thanks for the insight on the potential for shadows in the snow, Bob. In the source material, I see some very subtle shadows on the right hand side if I zoom way in. The snow is almost completely white in the source material, which is one of the reasons I thought this would be an easy tackle (it was not!)

I think it's beautiful Jeff.

I like that this painting has both of photo and painting features in it. I like that trees before the barn look like cobweb. I think it gives a feel of old and abandoned thing where spiders live. Maybe a Halloween mood for playing a trick here

I think you did an excellent job, very realistic ๐Ÿ‘

This is really well done. There is so much going on here in what looks simple at first glance. Even the air looks cold. The transition from detailed focus to misty distance is perfect giving amazing depth. You've got a eye for what looks right...again, well done!

Dang, Roy, what a compliment. Thank you! Really, I am still a fledgling when it comes to knowing what looks right. I'm glad you enjoy something about it.

Thank you Sunny, and Kevin! The appraisals of everyone here mean so much to me.

And Tomi, you're very generous, thank you!

Very nicely done! Great work on the cabin and love the composition here :)

Great painting. I think I like this one the most.

thank you patriziad! I missed your comment until now.
