Original Creation

Calmer Waters

Kaylee 15 Jan 2022

My first painting with Dmitri, recommended by SunnyLady. Had some many challenges with this, the illusions in the waves were more guesswork since I was working fully off of look and mimicking his brushwork as best I could. I also did not have all the matching colors but worked with what I have and worked with liquid clear as my medium for mixing paints. I no longer use paint thinner of any type, rather a natural non toxic home mix that does not mix with the liquid clear to thin it down more but I have been learning the quirks of this new cleaner and conditioner over the last few weeks. In the end, I learned sooooo much and will absolutely be doing more of Dmitry’s seascapes! I am SO pleased with this!!

Georgous job! Love the highlights on the water. I would very much like to have your homemade brush cleaner recipe.

This is absolutely wonderful painting Kaylee! I am happy to hear that you have learnt so much and that you will do more with his tutorials!

Great idea to use Liquid clear as medium!

Your version inspired me to go after this too! I thought it was rather boring till I saw your painting. This was not the easiest episode apparently because of pallet knife he used and very thick applications of paint. I struggled with it too. I admire your bravery and wish you all the best in sailing through the oceans!

Those reflections are so lively. This is truly wonderful work.

Oh what a delight! I can’t wait to see your version SunnyLady!!

Thanks everyone!

Kaylee this is a gorgeous painting and you have done brilliantly. I love the sunset and reflections especially and also the way your rocks fan out to bring the rising swell into your scene to break. And your birds - brilliant.

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

A true gem Kayleee!
You captured so well the movement of the waves with your shadow works. That foam is so reall, my whole study smells salty now! 😋😋

Thank you so much Voy Kay and Dave! You all are so kind, it is so meaningful when my hard work shows!!

Pam to tour question before, sorry I missed it.. I use a very simple mix of water, vegetable oil, and soap. I like to use half dish soap and half Castile soap and it will be in a ratio water:oil:soap - 4:2:1

I found it’s much more difficult to “beat” the brushes out so I use a few more rags now but the brushes are in far better condition than they were when I used solely mineral spirits. I use a shallow Tupperware with a lid and a small mesh rack to clean the brushes. It smells fabulous and really reduces my coughing and irritation nearly 100%. I paint indoors in a well ventilated room with a huge window open and when finished the fumes are dissipated within hours. I highly recommend but it does take some getting used to. I would love to talk more about my methods of you are still not clear, feel free to email me or find me on social! Kaylee21rak@gmail.com

I strive and long to paint like this. It's so good!

Antonia_91 thank you so much for your words, I am so honored by everyone’s kindness here ❤️ It is so motivating and inspiring to have so many artists of so many levels in one place, to top it many of which come from unique and varied locations all over the world! How incredibly lucky are we to be here in this space!

@Kaylee - totally love your version Kaylee. Your style is just amazing! I cannot stop looking at it. :)
