Original Creation

My Cat

LJMpaintings 25 May 2020

This was about a 2 hr sketch of a photo of my cat. I used a few tricks that I learned along the way. I used reference points for eyes ears mouth before I started...and a black and white image to work off of.(Thanks Sunnylady) I don't yet have fur texture details but will try again and hopefully I will improve. Overall it looks like her.

Looks just like her 💚

OMG, the cat is great! She looks like a wild cat a bit, like one who leaves in the forest. Nice character you gave to her on the paper. How is she in real life?

It is great success LJM! Wonderful job! I am speechless. I was thinking to draw our dog today when I had my cup of tea outside. But I got scared away by the challenge.

You are a brave woman!

Her name is Idella, and she is a very big ‘mommy suck’. She really really really love my mom the best. She is really cute, and she loves attention. She loves food and that’s where she gets her nickname of piggy.

Thanks so much Sunnylady...you would laugh at my first sketch i did yesterday by tutorial..(looked like a fox and not a cat) that's when I looked up using reference points made positioning everything better.

Thanks ESCM! You made me smile with such a cute story.

So sweet!

I did one kitten in oils. It looks like a little monkey :)

I hear your pain :)

What are the reference points?
I know about grid method to transfer/copy things and measuring with a pencil. Never heard about reference points.

By the way I am glad to hear my advice was helpful. Thank you for listening.

I cant seem to find where I saw that info...yes i used a grid(cross) middle of page for proper symmetry but then placed dots for where to draw eyes and ears

I will post an article how I did this sketch.

Great news! Thank a lot!

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

WAW! Idella looks stunning! I am a great catlover myself (as is my family) and we own two tomcats. One day, I might ask my daughter (she is the better sketcher!) to try and sketch one of our cats. This is an amazing drawing, WELL DONE!!!

Thanks Voy. I am a bit surprised at how well it turned out. We have a black cat too and I am a bit hesitant to try her as it would be more difficult to do.
