Autumn Reflections

Ninoum 14 Apr 2023

A friend gave me a picture to paint (see picture attached). This is what I came up with.

My sky is so so but it looks so much better in person. Overall, it was a fun challenge. If I had to start all over again, I would have painted it using only liquid clear on the sky and water and gessoed the trees and reflection section to preserve the true colors of the original picture. The dark I put behind my trees dulled down the richness of the autumn palette.

It is beautiful

Thx! I appreciate Cold! ☺️

This is really gorgeous! Love everything about it! Your colors are spot on and your reflections are perfect!

Thank you so much Sandy! It’s so different when I don’t have a tutorial to follow. So much to think about to get it to where it should be.

Good Morning,Very nice nancy , 😎👍🏼

Nancy, this is a beautiful painting, especially with the sky and reflections, and you have managed to capture the 'autumn-ness' of the photo with your achievement of colour in adapting this to paint in Bob's style. Well done. A good 1 for me to try one day. Congratulations. Cheers

Thanks Dirk my friend! Have a great Friday! Weekend is almost here. By the way, it looks like we have 6 hrs difference… a quarter of a day! 😂 So it should be 12:38 for you. It’s 6;38 here.

I really appreciate that Dave!! It was a great painting exercice for sure. Reflections with Bob are not as crisp as these. I had to figure it out. Not hard at all, just needs some precision. Doing things that are mirrored can be a little tricky. This was a great one to learn that aspect without being difficult!

Yes my friend 6 hours difference. Have a nice weekend. I won't paint again until next week after the last BA and PR paintings, if it works out in time😎🇩🇪

Beautiful. I have a goal to paint something like this for my sister. Now I have a reference!

Thank you my friend! Anything I can do to help let me know Tomi!

Great reflections of bushes and clouds and the color of the sky is spectacular. Love the flowers in the foreground too!

The reflections are captivating, Nancy. Well done. Painting from nothing but a photo is remarkably difficult and it's inspiring to see you taking on greater and greater challenges as an artist. I can see some of the artistic choices you made, like the omission of the brown banks on the left and right, and the addition of the flora in the bottom right. Those choices are some of the hardest things to decide on in my experience, and I think it shows your art muscles are flexing!

Question about the reflections: Since these are precise reflections, did you do anything to them like Bob does (like pulling down or going lightly across), or just leave them be?

Beautifully done, cheers!

Thank you so much B! It was def a great learning experience!

Thank you very much Jeffth! I am not a realism artist (yet… who know?!! 😉,) therefore as much as I want to paint all the details that are on the real picture, like you said, I have to flex my artist muscle to change it up. And you are 100% correct, not easy to do something different. I always tell myself in those moments that I want to capture the essence of the painting only. It helps.

To answer your question, I did pull across very very very gently. You can’t see it unless you blow the picture of my painting up. I did just that for the real one and saw a very faint blurry effect from the water. But no pulling downwards with the brush. I needed to keep the integrity of the reflexion as much as possible.
