Based on Josh Kirkham's "Heavenly Coast", from the Paint With Josh channel on Youtube.
12"x16" canvas. Liquid White, Ultramarine Blue, Dioxazine Purple, Phthalo Green, Van Dyke Brown, Yellow Ochre and Titanium White.
This is an attempt to salvage a failed painting. I originally painted this a couple of weeks ago with the centre section of the wave far too narrow. Today I went over the wave with some liquid white and had another go at it. I repainted the unbroken part of the wave and added a little more splash to the rest of the foam. I also put in a closer waterline. I was going to throw the original attempt out, but now I think it might be worth keeping. I'll include a photo of how it looked before.
Josh's version includes sand textured by flicking black, brown and white paints at the under-colour. But I'm not sure I like my sand looking so coarse, so I didn't do it.
Thanks Joha. This is my first time following a Josh tutorial, but I've watched a fair few. The trio of birds that he includes in all of his paintings are very personal to him (they represent Josh, his ex-wife and their daughter), so I never really think of them as part of the composition. They are more like part of his signature. I guess I could still go back and add a few seagulls though.
I did the three birds in my version, but in a different way as Josh did (didn't know the story behind it) and it made my painting more complete in my opinion.

Great result Regan, maybe a little texture on the beach with only one dark color, and no birds? But a very nice purple sky agains that green water!
