Malibu Dreams (an experiment)

Regan 05 Feb 2026

This was just a quick experiment to see if I could use the wood-effect method from "Fisherman's Trail" to make white wood.

12"x12" canvas panel primed with Burnt Sienna acrylic. Oils: Liquid Clear, Titanium White, Indian Yellow, Alizarin Crimson and Carbon Black.

So I was trying to make it look like it is on white-painted wood, like an old sign or something. I started with a dry acrylic base of Burnt Sienna before adding Liquid Clear, then Titanium White. I did the trick with the paint thinner and probably used too much in the bottom-left corner.

I've been wanting to try a palm tree, so I painted a quick scene based on the Malibu liqueur logo.

Good result with the distressed painted "wood," including the bottom left corner!
