Winter scene in the morning

Sunnylady 24 Mar 2023

Finally I got to paint this scene for myself. I made 6-7 of them in acrylics as baby shower gifts and wanted to have one for me.

I knew it will be an easy one in oils. But somehow I decided to make my life miserable and went in using Liquin as my medium. First two hours went quite well, even I really struggled to create a beautiful distance. And I conquered this Liquin. At that moment I was proud of this achievement and told myself that I somewhat harnessed Liquin.

Third hour was a combination of poor decisions: I decided to add snow on my beautiful bare trees. That was it. Failure.
I learnt a lesson. Without proper planning and sketching/digital help and rushing to finish will not produce good result. The final result I got : I killed all the distance by this big tree and snow became way too much.

Live and learn :)

Oil on A3 canvas; limited pallet madder lake, ultramarine blue, yellow ochre and burnt umber.

It looks beautiful to me! Maybe you're just too hard on yourself as so many of us are?

It looks really nice 😎Good work Sunny👍🏼

@Paintingblondie - thank you for your encouragement! You are very kind!

It was more beautiful coz I worked to implement what I read in John Carlsons book for two hours, I saw what effect those principles have and somehow decided to put that stupid snow on the trees which covered all that beauty. I am not mad/sad/or anything rather than need to get ready for another landscape to implement those principles once again. 😂

Somebody here was upset about making mistakes when repeating the scene. So what I can say even after 6-7 repeats they still happen. We just need to change point of view and start seeing what is success.

This painting still have few successful decisions that were not covered :)

@Dirk- thank you!

This still came out very nice Sunny. I can see much of your bare branches through the trees. They are indeed beautiful.

@Tony - thank you so very much! this was one of couple of times when I liked my trees. Totally do not understand how on earth I decided to add snow.

What's not to like, this is so beautiful, somewhere I'd take a really early morning walk, the trees, their trunks, the snow and shadows,the sky and reflection are fantastic. Really really love this one 😁🖌️🎨

Beautiful painting. The snow on the trees reminds me of an early snow here in Idaho before the trees have lost all their leaves.

I see the snow on the trees as heavy frost and I think this painting is beautiful!

It is nice

@Nivek- thank you so very much! I am so happy to read your comment!

@ Stickpeople - I thought about that early snow on the trees too to make piece with myself. I am glad it is actually real thing and not only my imagination. I will google photos from Idaho. Never been there.

@ Cronenberg - thanks! I am so happy so many people like it! It is a relief and I will varnish it.

@coldethel - thank you!
