Original Creation

Sunset seascape by Bill Alexander

Voy Kay 19 Nov 2020

Yet another oversized, call it semi-giant, canvas and this time, my eye fell on a creation from Bill Alexander.
I had prepared painting this by watching it twice before I began my five hours adventure with Bill. Luckily, I speak German so his crazy accent at times never bothered me. What did bother me was I did not get the colors up front and also Bill's camera work is inferior to Bob's. Nevertheless, I hope I managed to get a descent creation on a bigger then usual canvas for me.

Canvas used was a self made budget canvas, 24"x30". Thanks to building it myself, I only spent 3,8 Euro's at this for materials.
Colours used were T-white, Cad yellow, Bright red, A. crimson, Phtalo green, Phtalo blue, VDbrown and Ivory black. Nothing was really easy with this painting since I was used to Bob's style and not Bill's. And this creation must not be Bill's easiest either! Hardest part was getting the sun (more or less) right and the highlights on the rocks.

I can recommend this one to experienced painters. And if you succeed with this one, you will have one hell of a wild seascape that can blow you away! Please try it, good luck!

Thank you Colin! Those giants are not easy to handle, I can tell!

Oh Voy! Very powerful! I hope you enjoyed even more as it gave you a challenge!

yes Sunnylday, this is a strong one indeed. I'm not too happy with the wave, which in my opinion should roll iso going straight up towards the sun as Bill instructs, but I can live with it!
Not sure if I ever want to take on another giant like this .....

Meanwhile, I altered the wave, rocks and sky a little. Specially the white clouding was a thorn in my eye. Thanks to Sunnylady's advice, I was able to make it better (at least to me it is).
The final result can be seen as the last picture on the added pictures!

Please enjoy!

The sun peeking out of the clouds is stunning. It really draws my eyes in. Great job!

Thank you Heather!
There is an upgraded verison available in the added pictures!

I saw that as well! Nice finishing touches.

You are way too kind for me!!

Beautifully bold! I really like the golden sun and red highlights on the rocks. Quite an interesting mix of color in that second wave also. I’ve yet to paint along with Alexander but enjoy listening to his wisdom.

Thank you for liking this one FVG.

This is not Bill A. easiest you know. He doesn't always explain everything as easy as Bob does so getting that sky right was a Hercules task, luckily SUnnylady has helped me with that (result can be seen as the final painting of the additional pictures).
It is worth to try Alexander once, just make a good choice and watch the episode at least once before. Also make certain you got all the colours right since they were not given up front.

Good luck!

@Voy, I am so happy it worked out and muted the white in the sky which brought the wave forward to the viewer.

@Voy, it is always my pleasure to help if you need me!

Dear Sunnylday, so glad you liked it! I had no courage enough to go further with it so only took some aletrations on very carefully.
The result is a lot beter though, my artistic heart can finally rest now!

Thank you Sweetie!

Dear Tom,

Thanks for writing. Doing allright after long arm injury and now full time working for a company, so practically no time for me to paint or create.

This painting took me litle over 4 hours, also due to its size.
Tough parts are the yellow and white in the skies, together with the rocks (to keep them 3 dimensional which only partially succeeded with me).
The left rocks were extended and I wanted to create something of the giants' causeway with it (luckily that worked out!).

It is a beauty to paint, watch for the color scheme I wrote in my description since Bill doesn't mention them. Also he creates on purpose a grand painting mistake in the sky to show how to correct it. You can let that pass you by while painting!

Good luck!!

Goo job
