The last episode, number 13, of season 33 (2nd of Nic) of the Joy of Painting with Nic, I did it on a complete black canvas, also the outside of the oval, not white as the original, maybe I like the tree posts in front the most, the linseed oil (no liq. clear used) creeps a bit in the canvas around the oval, but when dry it's not disturbing anymore I hope, next time ( if it will come) I will keep the palmtrees much smaller, I did it on canvaspanel of 24 x 30 cm.
Regan, I use a free version of Proton VPN and connects to an American server, I did put a layer of gesso over the edges but it did not prevent creeping in the canvas.

Fantastic scene, and love the little fence. I'm trying to find the right amount of linseed oil as well - it sure helps to use some, but does result in stains on the dark part sometimes.

I wish there was somewhere I could watch Nic's episodes. Not being in America, I can't watch PBS' streaming service.
If you don't want anything finding its way under the contact paper, try covering the edges of the contact with a layer of gesso.
