Grandeur of Summer - 1st Attempt

marz_killjoy 20 Mar 2024

[ looked for the right place to upload this but couldn't find it, this is not an original idea]

I attempted Bob's hour long special "Grandeur of Summer" in June 2022, I only did the first 20 mins with Bob, but it was my first time trying the method and I got hyper-fixated on the mountain in the background. I scraped off and reapplied the paint over and over and six hours later I was exhausted and stopped. Paint mostly dried overnight and I didn't feel confident going back into it. I also noticed that my mountain was huge even though I used a medium square canvas. I really wanna relax and just go with the flow someday. The people who used to paint with Bob on live TV were the real MVPs.

excellent effort on the mountain. I can relate to the challenge of finishing a piece in one sitting with Bob, he is so fast! I have to take breaks every hour or so to avoid fatigue. Working on something after it has dried is not easy. I recommend starting anew, rather than working on a dried piece unless absolutely necessary.

Excellent effort all round and great first Bob painting. Well painted, keep going, cheers

Nicely done first painting Marz! Keep going!

thanks for the advice! @Jeffth

Thanks for the words of encouragement @DaveJ and @Cronenberg89

Nice 1st painting Marz. Bob's style is not meant to be painted in 20 minutes. Bob had to cram as much instruction as he could into a 22 minute painting segment. That is the main reason he painted so fast. 20+ years experience also helped LOL.

I spread my painitings over several days. Just have to be careful of the areas that actually need the wet surface to paint (i.e. blending areas). Take your time andf have fun. We all have mixed mud and scraped and repainted canvases. Happy painting to you :)
