Overlooking the hedgehogs

mbbrickner 29 Oct 2021

Oil on canvas | 11”x14” | I’ve been focusing so much on brush painting that I needed to pick up the knives again. This is my take on a photo I took at Frenchman’s Bay in Maine, overlooking the Hedgehog Islands. A lot of my inspiration for this style comes from Richard Musgrave-Evans. If you’ve never seen his work, check it out on YouTube. It’s amazing palette knife work.

What a cool technique
It turned put well

Thanks, MichelActuel! I have really learned to love palette knives and the unique attributes they can bring to a painting.

Love the style of your palette knife work., Will definitely check out Richard Musgrave-Evans.

Thanks, Jwalker! I don’t know how many palette knives you paint with, but I feel like I was able to better express the style I wanted to when I picked up a few different knife shapes. My favorite right now is a long thin “spatula” that I squared off the end so that the tip is flat rather than curved.
