Original Creation

Superstition Mountains

mbbrickner 26 Jan 2022

Oil pastel on canvas | 8”x10” | In this quick study, I was using Cray-Pas Expressionist oil pastels. I also used a paper blending stub and a paint brush with mineral oil to help smooth and blend areas on the “painting.” I feel like oil pastels often get a bad rap, mostly because the really cheap ones feel like crayons and they don’t have a drying oil in them. However, I was recently intrigued to discover that Monet actually used soft pastels quite extensively for studies because they were more economical.
