Ukrainian fields

mbbrickner 23 Feb 2022

Oil pastel on paper | 6”x9” | This is a quick sketch based on a photo of a field in Ukraine. The Ukrainian people have been heavy on my mind over the past week. I appreciate how the contrast of the field and the sky resemble the Ukrainian flag.

Very nice!

Thank you!

I really like this the colors really work well together and I like your sky the best.

Thanks! These colors are definitely working in an analogous scheme, which creates some real visual interest. I’m really pleased with how the sky turned out too!

Indeed poor people, I cannot imagine what it means to leave your home behind and move somewhere else to escape the possible war. People worked and saved their entire lives to get their homes. I keep fingers crossed no action ever gonna happen. I worry this is another stupid media war and nobody will ever know the truth. Very disturbing indeed and it is incredible empathy you show here.
I can certainly relate how social events can go into deep feelings to be expressed in the painting.

I am learning that if I can tell a story that connects my emotions to a painting, I often feel that’s the best way for me to paint. If a painting is more than just a pretty scene, it feels like it has more purpose and personal value.
