Waxy-skied winter scape

mbbrickner 01 Dec 2021

Oil and wax on canvas | 8”x10” | I decided to melt some beeswax and mix it with some refined linseed oil to make homemade cold wax. It definitely adds an interesting texture but isn’t as smooth as I would like. I’ll have to keep experimenting with it.

interesting media...new on me!

Yes, it is very interesting. Gamblin makes cold beeswax with Gamsol in it. I prefer not using solvents, but I've been intrigued to try a professionally made cold wax.

Very interesting! Looks like an old time painting!

Thanks!

I agree with PB it does give the impression of an older painting

This painting is primarily using zinc white and raw umber. There is some ultramarine blue, quinacridone magenta, and yellow ochre, but the zinc and umber probably give it some of that effect.
