Church in the country

In my alpine village painting which has just one house, I zoomed in on the original with my trusty magnifying glass and I could just make out a tiny white church steeple deep in the midground. I thought that was odd too. My understanding is in days gone by when a site for a village was found they would build the church first, then houses would turn up. I imagine there are some more houses off canvas. Great church by the way.
