Golden Rays of Sunshine

HLarson3 11 Sep 2022

I needed a painting that I could work on in several shorter sessions due to family commitments, and this one is just perfect for that. While I am not very happy with the finished product, I really loved the process of painting this due to the limited color palette and ease of working with gesso.

While painting this, my mother-in-law suddenly passed away. Returning to finish this composition gave me peace during a (still) very difficult time in our family. May perpetual light shine upon her.

Positives:
I needed script liner brush work, and I really loved practicing that with all the tree branches. And they looked really nice too (before they got covered by the sun)!

I especially like the white trees on the right.

Negatives:
I tried twice to get the bush/path shape I wanted with the foam brush, and really just wasn’t having much luck. This part of the finished painting definitely bothers me.

It took me a surprisingly long time to get the sun to work as I wanted, and it still ended up just too big. I love the effect, the execution just needs a bit of work now..

That said, this is a super fun, approachable painting that I highly recommend trying. I wasn’t planning on this one, but I’m glad I gave it a go!.

HLarson3, This painting is excellent. Perhaps this didn't come out exactly the way you intended, but it's an excellent effort. I've seen your other great paintings like "Lighthouse with Waves." You have a gift! Sorry to hear about your loss.

Thank you John. In all things, and through all things…we walk ever onward.
